Friday Memo: September 15, 2017

Special Recognition
During our faculty meeting, Dr. Dkystra joined us and presented a 20-year service pin to Dr. Mary Ann Conaway. He asked Mary Ann to tell us about all of the different jobs she has had during her 20 year stint at MBU. She has been an important asset in every position and we wish her many blessings
for the future.

Education Division Faculty Meeting
The faculty met on Tuesday, September 12 and discussed SWOTS. Alicia Noddings led the group and everyone worked on reviewing the 2016 SWOTS and offered any changes/suggestions that were needed. A group discussion was held after the individual work time. These discussions are always helpful. We are doing great as a division, but there are always ways to improve.

President's Chapel
President Lacey spoke on grace and humility at his final fall President's Chapel. We are such a blessed university community to be led so well by President Lacey. Thank you Dr. Lacey for your leadership!

Google in the Classroom
Students in Dr. Susan Hladky's curriculum class were using our new Chromebooks to create Google slides. Students were actively engaged as they were not only using Chromebooks, but were creating content using Google slides. When our students begin teaching in local school districts, they will be expected to have a working knowledge of Google products and understand how to engage their PK-12 students with these technology tools. If you would like to check out the classroom cart of Chromebooks, please email Nancy Sickler or fill out a check-out form located outside Nancy's office.

Meeting Reminders
Division Faculty Meeting: September 26 at 10:15 a.m. in FLD 115

Closing Thoughts
Thank you, Dr. Lacey, for leading us through the Stockley verdict. Dr. Lacey emailed out a letter yesterday regarding the upcoming verdict. He proactively communicated to MBU's students, faculty, and staff. I encourage all of us in the Education Division to follow Dr. Lacey's lead. Read a few of his thoughts below and consider how you can glorify Christ and model God's love in your classroom and in our offices as we interact with each other and with students as we process this verdict.
"Missouri Baptist University, along with many other organizations in the area, is committed to a gospel in which all people are equal in the eyes of God, where we do not see ourselves as better than someone else just because they are different, and where we all can work together toward building a just society...
Our faculty, coaches, administrators, and staff are committed to providing a Christian environment where we can glorify Christ and set an example for others in solving our problems. We can overcome all our obstacles as our oneness in Him breaks down our barriers between one another."
