Friday Memo: September 1, 2017

Counselor Education Student Orientation
The first student orientation for our new CACREP aligned program was held by the Counselor Education Division on Saturday, August 24, 2017. There was an awesome turnout and a Student Scavenger Hunt. Everyone had a great time and had the opportunity to meet others while learning about the program requirements.

Directors' Meeting
Our first Directors' Meeting of the year was held Tuesday, August 29. We invited the advisors to the meeting and they had a chance to talk to the Program Directors about issues and strategies to improve. I also shared the theme of the year with them: Review, Revise & Reflect. We reviewed and reflected on the CAEP MoCA data.

MBU Alum is Candidate for Missouri Teacher of the Year
Ed Kappeler earned his Master's degree at MBU and teaches high school English at Meramec Valley R-3 in Pacific. He was selected as one of two South Central Teachers of the Year, which makes him eligible for the State TOY. He is one of six finalists. We wish Ed the best of luck and congratulate him on his honor as South Central's TOY!

Teaching Critical Thinking
Dr. Engelhardt's class is learning about teaching critical thinking. The picture below shows students during a deductive reasoning activity in which students use clues regarding the relationship between individuals as they were trying to line up from shortest to tallest.

Closing Thoughts
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught.
Colossians 2:6-7

May you be encouraged by these verses as you continue to live in Christ Jesus. Allow him to be your root system upon which all areas of your life are built. May you continue to be strengthened in your faith, modeling and teaching your students about the glorious redeeming power of Jesus Christ!
