Friday Memo: October 27, 2017

MACTE Conference On October 23-25, Susan, Alicia,and I attended the MACTE Conference at the Lake of the Ozarks. Amy Zielinski from Fox School District attended with us and presented with Susan on our Win-Win partnership with the Fox School District. Additional notes from the conference have been added to the Ed Division PD Canvas shell. Particular items of interest were surrounding information related to the Annual Performance Report and an alternative to CAEP accreditation. This coming year's APR will not include programs being separated by tier. Programs will either be accredited, provisionally accredited, or not accredited. However, due to the infancy of the APR, all programs will be identified as accredited until 2020. We were also presented with a new educator preparation accreditation option - AAQEP. Education Faculty Meeting On Tuesday, October 10 the faculty met and the Traveling Apple was awarded to Marsha Tierney. Marsha received the award for her outstanding work in the classroom and her dedication to the Franklin County RLC. During the faculty meeting we reviewed CAEP data from the DESE 1st year teacher, principal, and counselor surveys, as well as the SWOTS for this year. We also celebrated birthdays for: Clint Limoges, Laura Rauscher, Michelle Einig, and Patrick Cleveland. Patrick brought treats for everyone and since there were four out of seven people in the Counselor Education Department celebrating their October birthday, the cake said Probability: 1 in 20. 😊 ACSI Professional Development Forum On Thursday, October 12 and Friday, October 13 several folks from MBU presented at the ACSI Professional Development Forum in O'Fallon, MO. Dr. Suzanne Hull from DESE Visits MBU Dr. Suzanne Hull, the new Coordinator for Educator Preparation for the Office of Educator Quality at DESE visited us on Thursday, October 5. Thank you to those who had the opportunity to introduce yourselves to Suzanne and welcomed her to our campus. She commented that she sensed a warm culture from the moment she walked on our campus. I am excited that she is at the helm of the Office of Educator Quality at DESE. I sense she is going to be a dynamic leader who will always consider our students' and the PK-12 students' needs! Suzanne, Shelton Smith, and me Vatterott Institute Professional Development Tammy Cox was asked by a former MBU graduate student who works at Vatterott Institute to speak to the Vatterott Institute faculty regarding best practices in teaching, raising faculty morale, and working more efficiently as a team.
