Education Faculty Meeting - Tuesday, October 11
We discussed a variety of topics and opened with an inspirational video of Oak Park High School where teachers were challenged to find a student that inspired them and tell them. This time of year is difficult as we transition from one term to another and the workload is heavy. We need to keep our students at the forefront of our minds to remember they are why we do what we do. Full time faculty are encouraged to choose one of their students that inspires them and tell them. Watch the video here.
Collegiate Seminar - Tuesday, October 11
Kathleen Wendt, Ricki Roth, Tammy Cox, and I met with freshman who have declared education as their major. I opened the meeting with a welcome and Kathleen and Ricki followed up with the requirements of initial certification.
MoGEA Workshop - Tuesday, October 11
A huge shout out goes to Elizabeth Busekrus for organizing and presenting our first MoGEA writing workshop. We look forward to our second workshop that will be held on November 10. Please encourage your students to attend.
Faculty/Staff In-Service - Wednesday, October 12
An ER doctor shared with the group the appropriate times to go to the ER and times you shouldn't go to the ER. This was very valuable information to hear and to be reminded that we should make wise consumer choices because our health care is a self-funded program.
Canvas Training - Wednesday, October 12
The Center for Distance Learning once again provided Canvas training for faculty and staff. Please know that you can ask Alicia Noddings or Guy Danhoff for Canvas support and they will make arrangements to work around your schedule if you were unable to attend.
ACSI Conference - Thursday, October 13 and Friday, October 14
Jason Lievanos, Susan Hladky, Shelton Smith, Sheri Brandt, David Collum, Suzanne Bright, B.J. Wiemer, Alicia Noddings, and myself presented several topics at the ACSI Professional Development Forum Conference at the First Baptist Church O'Fallon Christian Academy. It's important for us as a Christian institution to share evidence-based practices with Christian educators. I have received positive feedback from forum attendees. I appreciate the willingness of our faculty to share their expertise with others.
Doctoral Education Committee Meeting
Team members involved in both doctoral programs met to discuss entrance requirements and a few curricular issues to streamline our processes for these programs.
SWOTS
Alicia Noddings and I submitted our SWOT report to Dr. Dykstra's office. We will review this document at our next faculty meeting in November.
From Troy/Wentzville RLC
Students in Mark Engelhardt's EDUC 303 Methods of Teaching and Differentiated Instruction class modeled the presentation instructional strategy.
October 23-25 - MACTE
October 25 - Education Faculty Meeting - CANCELED
Closing Thoughts
With the trees changing colors, our thoughts are on fall and the new season provides us an opportunity to renew; it's time to discover which parts of yourself you'd like to embrace and expand on and which parts of your summer skin you'd like to shed. It's good for us to continue to examine ourselves, but one thing we can count on is "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." Hebrews 13:8.
