Homecoming Week Fun!
Door Decorating Contest winner was the University Communications Department. A few of us stopped by this morning to check it out. If you want to get in on the fun, stop by the office of Bryce and company.

Boss's Day
Thank you to the most amazing staff who showered my office with fun on Monday. I am the luckiest boss in the world to work with such fun, hard-working, Christ loving staff members!

YESS Meeting
Susan Hladky and I met with the seven students who are participating in our Yearlong Experience for Spartan Students. We gathered extremely helpful information from these students about their experience so far and ways in which we can support students in the future through our coursework to ensure they are set up to be successful in a yearlong internship. We will share more at the next faculty meeting.

Homecoming Chapel
Tuesday's chapel in the gym was so much fun. Hearing the student athletes' stories was inspiring and uplifting. I walked out of the gym that day realizing again what a special place MBU is in the shaping of a generation of students.

Please read the note below from Ron's family.

MPEA
Shelton Smith and a number of our MEA faculty members are at the MPEA - Missouri Professors of Educational Administration - fall conference today. They have enjoyed a robust agenda and just finished hearing from the state commissioner, Dr. Margie Vandeven.

Cooperating Teacher Regional Summit
Angela McGowan, Susan Hladky and I had the wonderful opportunity on Thursday to attend this event on the campus of St. Louis University. There was a gathering of representatives from local educator preparation programs and cooperating teachers. We discussed a number of pertinent topics and gathered some great feedback from this group of cooperating teachers. DESE will receive a collection of  the information gathered from the seven regional meetings across the state, along with some recommendations for cooperating teacher selection and training.

Spartan Athletic Banquet
Last night, Tammy Cox, Lowell & Sue Pitzer, and I enjoyed a wonderful evening celebrating the accomplishments of many of our past and current athletes. If you have never gone before, I beg you to mark it on your calendar for next year. Athletic Director and Education faculty member, Dr. Tom Smith, does a FANTASTIC job with this event. I was so inspired by the Hall of Fame speeches and motivated to consider ways in which we can showcase the excellence in our own division. You will hear more later, but look forward to a celebration event that will bring Education division faculty and students together.

Alumni Chapel
The Education Division was well represented at the Alumni Chapel on Thursday.  Lauren Maniaci received the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award and Sherry Jones received the Educator of the Year award.  Lauren is working in Chicago and Sherry is a music teacher at Jennings School District.

Adjuncts in the News
Jason Lievanos, an MBU adjunct and principal at Rockwood School District is featured in the October 19, 2016 issue of West News Magazine. Click here and then go to page 35 to read "Local Family Uses Backyard Movie to Build Relationships, Combat Hunger."

Closing Thoughts
Tammy Cox gave me this inspiring book by Ann Voskamp, called “One Thousand Gifts.” My morning reading for the last few days has been filled with descriptive blessings from this extremely talented writer. I am challenged to be more grateful to God.  Ann quotes Sarah Ban Brethnach at the beginning of chapter three, “Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world.” For the next few months I will be sharing in my closing thoughts things for which I am grateful that relate to my work here with you.

I am grateful for the MBU founders, so glad they followed God’s leading and started this institution where I get to work and be a part of preparing future educators and leaders.
I am grateful for our administration, men who love the Lord and use their skills and talents to provide leadership so we can teach and interact with our students.
