Friday Memo 9/9/16

Another Doctorate Degree Awarded
Congratulations to Dr. Butler! Thanks to her committee for supporting Dr. Butler on her journey. When our doctoral students complete their dissertation defense I am reminded what an important role we play in our students' lives, from the beginning of undergraduates' pursuit of initial certification all the way to the culminating professional experience for many seasoned educational professionals.

DESE Business Meeting
Angela McGowan, Jan Speck, Sandra Hendricks, Susan Hladky, Shelton Smith, and I represented Missouri Baptist's Education Division at the DESE business meeting held in Columbia on Wednesday. Topics presented included Grow Your Own Programs, APR updates, Performance Assessments, GPA calculations, and Clinical/Field Experience Partnerships.

Chapel
Blessed again by attending chapel. We have some incredibly talented students who shared their artistic gifts through music and art. And the speaker, Kempton Turner, shared a powerful message  on mercy and grace.

Strategic Planning
Alicia Noddings and I are working on our strategic plan based on input from the program directors, program reviews, and annual data collection. We will be discussing this at the faculty meeting on September 27th. If there is something you believe needs to be included in the strategic plan, please email me and Alicia.

CACREP
Clint Limoges is doing a fantastic job moving us forward as we pursue CACREP accreditation. He has completed many new course syllabi and the rest of the full-time counseling faculty are also creating syllabi for new courses that will help us meet the CACREP standards. All counseling faculty need to be aware that the CACREP standards are rigorous and the course expectations will be increasing. Our goal is to have our new curriculum in place for Fall 2017.

Student Organization Meet & Greet
Today we will be hosting a meet and greet to acquaint students with our student education organizations. Please join us in The Perk at 11:30am if you are available.

HLC
The HLC assurance argument has been submitted to the visiting team members. An email was sent with a digital copy of the assurance argument; hard copies are available for your review in Dr. Triplett's office. The team will be here in a few weeks and we are looking forward to a positive visit. Many people have been integral in this process, but I would like to particularly acknowledge David and Genise Collum for their work in preparing the documents. This is a monumental task. Thanks, David and Genise!

Student Evaluations
Do you know how to access your student evaluations? I expect all full-time and adjunct faculty to read student evaluations every term they are teaching as we can often times learn and grow from the students' feedback. You can access your evaluations from the my MBU link on the University website. Go to the bottom right side and click on the drop down arrow next to Campus Labs Resources. Choose Course Evaluations - Faculty. Please know that Dr. Dykstra and I read every evaluation. I will be emailing you in the next few weeks if there are comments that have me concerned. I value your perspective and want to hear what you have to say about your student evaluations to determine if and what curriculum and instruction changes need to be made.
