State-Wide MoPTA Task 4 Webinar at MBU
Thanks to those of you who attended the event and a special thank you to our IT department for ensuring that we had the adequate technology set up and ready to go at 6:00pm so that we could connect between webinar facilitators located in Princeton, New Jersey, Jefferson City, MO, and from our campus in the Field Academic Building.
Hap Hairston, Director of the Office of Educator Quality at DESE, traveled from Jefferson City to host the webinar on our campus. The first few MoPTA webinars have taken place in Springfield and Warrensburg. We are thrilled that we were invited to host to the Task 4 - Video - Webinar.

Troy/Wentzville RLC Appreciation Meeting
Mary Sue Thompson, Dean of the T/W Regional Learning Center, each fall invites deans, division chairs, and the provost to her site to provide updates to the adjunct instructors and to express gratitude for all that the adjuncts do for us. The food was yummy, decorations adorable, and the conversations were fantastic. I enjoyed providing an overview of the strategic initiatives taking place in the education division with the instructors who teach at the T/W Regional Learning Center. One of those initiatives that I mentioned was our increased focus on establishing mature partnerships with local PK-12 schools. I was excited when teachers and administrators from the Wentzville and Troy School Districts in attendance expressed an interest in partnering with us to provide some authentic experiences for our students, while serving some needs for their district.

Division Faculty Meeting
  • Wildwood Middle Reading Club - Marieann Barratt presented the work being done at Wildwood Middle School. It is always exciting to hear from our students about the impact they are having in our local schools. Marieann used words like "interventions", "reading fluency", and "assessments." Not only is this partnership with Wildwood Middle School a great opportunity for some extra support for some of their struggling students, but it provides an authentic learning experience for our MBU students to apply the information they are learning in their classes to the realities of the real classroom.
  • PLC Updates - I reminded the group of the agreed upon norms for our upcoming PLC work. I also shared that there will be three PLCs taking place on the last Tuesday of each month. Counselors will work together. Other faculty members will chose between a PLC to explore how we are teaching students and leaders to differentiate and another PLC to examine how we are teaching students and leaders to use assessment data to make instructional decisions. I encourage all faculty to read the following prior to our meeting on Tuesday. PLC Pre-Reading
  • Assessment, MoPTA, Assistant Dean, Conference, Division Initiative, and RLC updates were provided by various faculty members. Feel free to read the meeting minutes for more details.

 Collegiate Seminar Presentation
Kathleen Wendt, Ricki Roth, and I presented to the students in collegiate seminar who have declared Education as their major. This is the first year we have had this opportunity to meet with these freshmen to talk to them about the field of Education and the many requirements for Ed majors. We tried to calm their nerves and not overwhelm them (even though being an Education major is nerve wracking and overwhelming!)

AAT/APR Meeting
I traveled to Jefferson City yesterday to attend a meeting as a representative on the Associate of Arts in Teaching (Community College Teaching Degree)/Annual Performance Report subcommittee of the Missouri Technical Advisory Committee. The purpose of the group is to determine the data points that should be utilized to determine effectiveness of community college AAT programs.

Boss's Day
Although entirely unnecessary, I appreciated the card and cookie cake in honor of Boss's Day. Your kind words were certainly wonderful to read, and I feel extremely grateful to work with such an amazing group of people who are supportive of me.

Fall Break
Enjoy the next few days of beautiful fall weather. Come back refreshed and ready for the second 8 weeks of the semester. It will be Christmas before we know it!

I was blessed this morning by the following from "Jesus Calling" by Sarah Young, perhaps it will bless you, too.
"Try to stay conscious of Me as you go step by step through this day. My Presence with you is both a promise and a protection. My final statement just before I ascended into heaven was: Surely I am with you always. That promise was for all of My followers, without exception."

Enjoy His promise and protection during the coming days!
Melanie
