Friday Memo: November 10, 2017
This week has been full of Zoom exploration, CAEP and CACREP preparations. As our Counselor Education faculty have been learning the new live-streaming platform, Zoom, the teacher education folks have been working on details for our CAEP site visit and implementing new ideas in their classrooms. This week's blog includes great information that you all shared. Enjoy reading what is happening in the world of your colleagues.
From Jan Speck, full-time Counselor Education faculty
Online School Counseling student Barb Wilson attended my presentation at the Missouri School Counselor Association conference. It's great that Barb is attending the conference.
MBU Counselor Education Adjunct Sarah Dix introduced the keynote speaker at the Missouri School Counselor Association conference. Sarah is immediate past president of this organization.
From Kathleen Bauer, MBU Adjunct for Language Acquisition of the Young Child
We completed the chapters on Infants/Toddlers/Preschoolers and are headed into the language development of Elementary age students next week. To bridge the gap, we worked in small groups to brainstorm lesson ideas that would be relevant to a small literature piece, "Fresh Fall Leaves" by Betsy Franco. Our classroom was bursting with exciting ideas to implement into a variety of learning venues! The connectivity between this diverse array of students was wonderful!! Yay God!! What a blessed evening!
From Jason Lievanos, MBU adjunct who teaches a variety of classes
Practicing some cooperative structures to connect students in Teaching a Diverse Society, because it's all about relationships!
From Marsha Tierney, Franklin County RLC Dean
Robert Prichard, a teacher at St. Clair High School and an MBU adjunct, has been named the 2017 Missouri History Teacher of the Year, an award presented annually by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to K-12 American history education.
From Mark Engelhardt, full-time Education Division faculty member
Dr. Amy Porter was the guest speaker for the Troy/Wentzville RLC sMSTA, KDP, and sASCD student groups. Dr. Porter is the Director of Elementary Curriculum at Lincoln County R-III School District in Troy, MO. She spoke on the essential topic of classroom management. This topic is consistently identified by education major graduates as one of the most important aspects in their teaching preparation program.

Closing Thoughts
As tomorrow is Veteran's Day it is important for us to pause and be grateful for those men and women who have served or are currently serving our country in the military. Joshua 1:9 says "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Our veterans are perfect examples of being strong and courageous. As I think of their sacrifice I am so grateful that they were willing to risk their lives for my freedom. Thank you, veterans!
