Friday Memo 1/29/16

SMSTA/SASCD/KDP
The students met this week and had the pleasure of hearing from our very own Dr. Pam Stanfield. Dr. Stanfield spoke on the "Children I Have Loved, Lessons I Have Learned", inspired by her published book. Students enjoyed the presentation and were eager to participate and ask questions after the presentation. This group of main campus students is gaining momentum. Thanks to Nichole Dales, Ricki Roth, and Mary Ann Bouas for your efforts with this group.

Early Childhood Rivers Bend AEYC
Rivers Bend AEYC has extended its deadline for proposals. For all of you early childhood folks, you are invited to submit a proposal for the upcoming "Stepping Up to Leadership" Pre-conference and the Rivers Bend AEYC Annual Conference to be held on April 8-9 at St. Charles Community College. As noted on their recent request for proposals, "Your knowledge and experience would be a vital addition to the conference program that will provide professional development opportunities for 300-350 early childhood providers, administrators, and students. We look to address topics and issues from birth through after school-age care programs."
This is an excellent opportunity for us to showcase Missouri Baptist and to share with the community of early childhood educators in our local area.
Please contact Alicia Noddings for more information.

PLC Meeting
I enjoy reading the notes from our PLC work. Really good work, team. Keep up the good work! Remember that you can access detailed notes on our Education Division Professional Development Canvas course that you should see listed under your courses. The focus of the Professional Learning Communities is to discuss ways in which we can ensure we are preparing our candidates in the areas of assessment and differentiation. Here are some highlights from the notes of the meetings that took place Tuesday.
  • Dissect the APR data.
  • There should be greater emphasis on multi-tiered intervention strategies.
  • Re-visit the need for the "reflections and folio" course.
  • Folio discussion emerged with the 4 tasks and lack of Student Teaching Manual.
  • Suggestion of possibly connecting Student Teaching and Field Experience into the Folio.
  • Perhaps we should have two separate guides to help students.
  • Sharing of Educatopia handout on 6 strategies for differentiated instruction in PBL
  • Possibility of a book study - Tomlinson ASCD book on implementing school wide differentiation
  • Discussion on differentiation techniques in the university classroom
  • Preparation for a university survey regarding DI
  • Goals to keep in mind - create list of differentiation strategies, starting with MoSPE, Bloom, and RTI as guideposts - see where these guides intersect

MTSS Field Experience Partnership with Henderson Elementary
Dr. Susan Hladky met with the teachers and principal working with our Field II students at Henderson Elementary in Francis Howell School District. Susan was encouraged by the meeting because the teachers are genuinely excited to begin working with our students and giving them opportunities for hands-on experiences with students as they observe effective tiered instruction.

Closing Thoughts
Love so undeniable, I can hardly speak
Peace so unexplainable, I can hardly think
As you call me deeper still

Chapel Worship Team
What a blessing to be able to worship the Lord, God Almighty at work! Once again, I was blessed by attending chapel. Not only was the speaker, Casey Peterson, inspirational and motivational reminding us that God chose the least of these, but the worship was awesome! I was particularly moved by the words on the screen in the picture above. God's love is so undeniable and His peace is so unexplainable, yet He calls us deeper still.

Have a nice weekend,
Melanie
