Campus Labs - Accreditation Module
Tonia Crane, Alicia Noddings, Jeremy Ruckstaetter, Nancy Sickler and I participated in a conference call training session with Emily Rose Barry, our Campus Labs representative. As the Counseling Program is pursuing CACREP accreditation and the Education Division is preparing for our Spring 2018 CAEP accreditation visit, we will be leaning heavily on the Campus Labs Compliance Assist Module for data collection and documentation. This module will also help us with so much more than data collection, it will allow us to understand the data to help us make informed decisions about our division, programs, and courses for continuous improvement. You will all be playing a role in these important accreditation visits and the work needed to prepare the self-studies. Be prepared (as soon as we get through our HLC visit) to play an integral part in the preparation of these accreditation materials.

Partnership with Lincoln County R-III School District
Dr. Dykstra, Mary Sue Thompson, Mark Engelhardt, Nancy Sickler, and I met with Mark Penny, Superintendent, and Amy Porter, Director of Elementary Curriculum, today to continue our discussions about our work with their district. We talked about a lot of ways in which MBU can work with their school district to provide authentic learning experiences for our future teachers, counselors, and leaders AND to provide graduate opportunities and professional development for their staff. We also brainstormed possibly bringing the 6th grade and/or 12th grade students to visit our main campus. I am really excited about what the future will bring as we work together with the district administration.

Integrating Faith and Learning
Angela McGowan and I had the pleasure of chatting with Sue Pitzer about this issue. Sue will be teaching the main campus Field I seminar class this semester for the first time. As a previous administrator at Kirk Christian Day School just around the corner from main campus, Sue comes to us with a firm understanding of how important it is for teachers to view their students in the image of God and to allow that viewpoint to shape their teaching beliefs and framework. This conversation has sparked my interest in this topic and I look forward to finding more ways in which we can integrate faith and learning in Education classes.

Learning Sciences International
Unfortunately, due to the snow we had to cancel the workshop that was going to take place on Wednesday. I was excited to attend this event and learn more regarding building instructional leadership supported by research. We will let you know when the event has been rescheduled.

Consortium for Global Education Chapel
What a pleasure it was attending chapel this week. The student led worship was uplifting and the message presented by Dr. Carolyn Bishop, president of the Consortium for Global Education, was informative and hopefully encouraged some of our students to consider studying abroad. I am grateful that Tonia Crane actively participates in this organization. She has a passion for helping teachers in Lebanon know how to work with students with special needs.

Closing Thoughts
In Max Lucado's book, Grace for the Moment, he eloquently describes how God's help is near us at all times. "Faith is the belief that God is real and that God is good. It is a choice to believe that the one who made it all hasn't left it all and that he still sends light into the shadows and responds to gestures of faith...God's help is near and always available, but it is only given to those who seek it."

Hebrews 11:1 Faith means being sure of the things we hope for and knowing that something is real even if we do not see it.

May you feel God's presence near you this weekend.

Melanie
