Counselor Education Meeting
While the Education folks were meeting with EdPlus, the counselor folks met in my office to work on CACREP and other counselor ed issues.

Character Education Certification
Spread the word about this great opportunity for your students to earn the Character Education certification which will be a plus on their resume. Students can register at characterplus.org and attend the two-day workshop held here on Main Campus.

Charity Schluter
Charity defended her dissertation on Thursday, January 25. Charity is one of our awesome adjuncts. Susan Hladky, Shelton Smith, and I were on her committee and celebrate with her!

Learning in the Classroom
Roxanne Genovese shared the following:
We are learning ‘a ton’ in Early Childhood Diagnostics 443/543 about different assessment tools, how they are used and who uses them.

Tonight’s class had a guest speaker from First Steps, Keri Wuertz - case manager, who talked about the program and reviewed the assessments that the program uses to determine eligibility for services and program services.

After the presentation, students worked in groups to dissect a First Steps (FS) Evaluation report, FS IFSP, DAYC-3 assessments and an IEP for a child who transitioned into ECSE. Students reviewed the items and answered questions as to why and how assessments were choose and if other assessments could have been used.

We encourage you to send us articles, pictures, and events. Please submit pictures for the blog by Thursday. We love to share your good news. Email to melanie.bishop@mobap.edu or nancy.sickler@mobap.edu

CAEP Update
If you don't see me in my office, I will be at home working on the response to the questions from our CAEP team on the Self-Study Report. We have until February 9 to respond. It's a big task and I appreciate all of the help I've received from you all when I've asked for information. The visit will take place from Saturday, February 24 through Tuesday, February 27. Some of you will be asked to come to Main Campus to be interviewed by the CAEP team. Be watching your email for that invitation!

Closing Thoughts from Director of Teacher Education - Tammy Cox
The old adage states that the three most important words in real estate are “location, location, location.” As instructors, mentors, and guides to our students – we know that the three most important words in education are “relationship, relationship, relationship.” I’m always thrilled when I see the light bulb ignite inside one of my students, and I, like you, celebrate the moments when a student accurately connects one concept to another.
But, in all honesty, my greatest thrill in this role to which God has called me, is to build relationships with my students. My most treasured moments are spent investing in my students by encouraging them, listening to them, praying for them and serving as a model to them. These are your moments of impact as well. This is what’s eternal. This is what truly matters. This is your legacy!
After all, we can teach what students need to know, but in reality we always end up teaching who we are.
“A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.  Luke 6:40

  1. Well said Tammy Cox! Your closing thoughts encourage me to allow God to use me to make a difference in the lives of our students. Also, I am praying for the Education Division as you are preparing for the CAEP team visit. God has this!
