CharacterPlus Character Education Certification
CharacterPlus will be offering a two-day training for Character Education certification on Wednesday, February 21 and Saturday, February 24 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. in FLD 308 in the Field Building. Please share this information with your students. Earning this certification is a benefit for future teachers, leaders, and counselors. By attending this two-day workshop, students will earn a certification that will set them apart from others. Many school districts in the St. Louis area are National Schools of Character and would appreciate new educators coming to work already possessing this powerful knowledge and certification.

EdPlus/CEEDAR High-Leverage Instructional Strategies Workshop
This morning Susan Hladky and I met with John Waters, EdPlus Director, and Jen Tiller, EdPlusChief Academic Officer to discuss an exciting professional development opportunity for our teacher and leader faculty (full-time are expected and adjuncts are welcome) this spring. Counselor Ed faculty you will attend your own meetings - you will be excused from these workshops. We will start with a kickoff meeting on Tuesday, January 23rd, during our normally scheduled faculty meeting time when EdPlus will introduce the work of John Hattie and engage us in professional development centered around Hattie's instructional strategy effect size research. There will be additional workshops in February, March, and April. More information to come in the near future.

Student Teacher Orientation
On Tuesday, December 12 we held our Student Teacher Orientation. We have a total of 45 students for the Spring semester. Thanks to Susan Hladky for leading the event. As always, Angela and Kathleen did a good job communicating important information to the students as they prepare for student teaching, assessments, and other requirements. Sarah Gibbs, from Career Services, shared helpful tips with the seniors. And Tammy Cox closed out the meeting with her inspirational words about students following their calling. University supervisors met their students and communicated expectations.

Counselor Education Christmas Luncheon
The Counselor Education Faculty (even Christine - look closely at the middle of the table where Christine joined us via speakerphone) gathered to enjoy a Christmas luncheon at Red Robin on Tuesday, December 12. What a pleasure to join this crew and hear the exciting things happening with our CACREP-aligned program!

Education Christmas Luncheon
The Education Christmas luncheon was held on Wednesday, December 13 at Olive Garden. We enjoyed good food and good company. Thank you to the surprise anonymous Santa who paid for everyone's lunch!

Student Feedback
We've talked about the importance of student feedback before and I wanted to share this comment given to one of our instructors. Students appreciate when you take the time to give meaningful feedback.

Thank you for a great semester. I loved having you as a professor and taking your course. Thank you for your feedback on my assignments and all your help. I looked forward to reading your feedback on every assignment, it is something that I have not had in all my courses, so I really appreciated it.

If you have not already, please strongly encourage your students to complete their end-of-course evaluations. This feedback is extremely helpful as we try to meet the needs of our students.

Upcoming Meetings
December 18: Feasting Day
December 19 - January 1: Christmas Break - ENJOY!
January 5: Faculty Inservice
January 9: Education Faculty Meeting at 10:15 a.m. in FLD 115

Closing Thoughts
I love Christmas decorations! I enjoy sitting on my couch with a cup of coffee just looking at the tree - the lights, the colors, and most importantly the ornaments. Our family has a tradition of getting an ornament every time we go on a trip. Every Christmas we get to relive the memories we made while on each trip, remembering the experiences at each unique destination. At this time of year it is easy to get overwhelmed with the hustle and bustle of the holidays, but I pray that you have time to make memories with your loved ones and reflect on the blessings from 2017.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
