Friday Memo: December 1, 2017

Support Jeanna Ryner, Director of Library Services, currently on active duty in the military
Jeanna Ryner, our director of library services, has long served our country in the Air National Guard as a jet engine mechanic. But her service requires a big commitment, and this year that has meant a long-term deployment overseas - and being away from her very young child for multiple months. Jeanna will be returning home in January, but in the meantime, warm thoughts, wishes, and prayers from her MBU family help to let her know how loved she is and how much we appreciate her. The education division is pulling together a "spa pack" with cards and notes to send to Jeanna. Have something you'd like to add, whether a note or card, lotion, candle, etc.? Please arrange to have it to Nancy Sickler on main campus by Monday, and we will take care of shipping it overseas. Help us wish Jeanna a most blessed Christmas!

Spartan Exclusive Day
On Friday, November 17 MBU held the first Spartan Exclusive. This event is to allow students to have a glimpse of a day in the life of a Spartan. Students who attended the Spartan Exclusive most likely have MBU in their top three college choices. They are intentional and serious about attending MBU. Tammy Cox, Ricki Roth, and Alicia Noddings attended and met with some students that are interested in pursuing an education degree.

Library Needs Our Help
Please take a few minutes and review the following spreadsheets that show the collection of VHS tapes and Test Kits in the library. If you want the library to save any particular test kits or VHS tapes you must let Rebekah McKinney know by Friday, December 8th. They will be getting rid of materials in the library and this is your last chance to let them know you want them to retain items.

Education Division PD Faculty Meeting - November 28
Big shout out to Elizabeth Busekrus for sharing an APA presentation. The information was a nice refresher and we had a great discussion about the many ways we can support our students as they are at varying levels of understanding APA. Click APA powerpointGuide to APA Formatting Part 1Guide to APA Formatting Part 2 for more information. These documents can also be found on our Division PD page. Please share the formatting guides with your students on your canvas shells.

Continued CAEP Work
Review, reflect, and revise - As a reminder, these are our three focus words this year. Our professional development meeting this week consisted of reviewing and reflecting on data from the MoPTA, Cooperating Teacher Program Evaluations, and Student Evaluations of our Program. Faculty collaborated and typed up their observations and suggestions on this shared google spreadsheet. Please take a look if you were not able to attend to learn more about what our assessment data is telling us.

Upcoming Meetings

Closing Thoughts
Your lead team of Nancy Sickler, Susan Hladky, Tammy Cox, Clint Limoges, Alicia Noddings, Shelton Smith and I met this week to discuss our vision for our programs and the progress we have made on a dream list we created a year ago. Here are just a few items on that dream list we have achieved:
  • Expand MBU/P-12 school partnerships
  • Celebrate successes and express appreciation for excellence
  • Technology training for faculty
  • Regular, consistent presence on Facebook and Instagram
  • Work with University Communications to create a division recruiting video - click here to watch this awesome video!
You should feel very confident in those in leadership positions. We have been blessed with a strong team with complementary gifts and talents that champion forward progress and exciting things happening in our division.  The next time you see one of these folks, thank them for their service, and always know that they represent you and your specific areas of the division.
