Dr. Suzanne Hull from DESE Visits MBU
Dr. Suzanne Hull, the new Coordinator for Educator Preparation for the Office of Educator Quality at DESE visited us on Thursday, October 5. Thank you to those who had the opportunity to introduce yourselves to Suzanne and welcomed her to our campus. She commented that she sensed a warm culture from the moment she walked on our campus. I am excited that she is at the helm of the Office of Educator Quality at DESE. I sense she is going to be a dynamic leader who will always consider our students' and the PK-12 students' needs!

Vatterott Institute Professional Development
Tammy Cox was asked by a former MBU graduate student who works at Vatterott Institute to speak to the Vatterott Institute faculty regarding best practices in teaching, raising faculty morale, and working more efficiently as a team. The workshop was well attended and response from the director  was very favorable.

Accreditation Update
I met this week with the RLC deans to review assessment data and to discuss trends. The CAEP evidence packets will remain on the Education Division PD Canvas shell for all Education Division faculty to review and consider ways in which we can improve. I will meet with this group again in the spring to review more data and to brainstorm action items, as needed.

MBU Speaker Series
Tuesday through Thursday was the MBU Speaker Series entitled "Your Last Lecture." The speakers were asked, "What would you say, if this was your last lecture?" On Tuesday, the bell choir performed and Dr. Matthew Easter spoke. His message was "let Jesus be the author of your life story." On Wednesday we sang along with the foursome and then Dr. Allin Means told everyone to "never give up, persevere." On Thursday, the MBU Chorale sang, Mrs. Joy Powell sang, and Mrs. Brenda Bradford spoke. Brenda's message was God is in charge of your life! The series was inspirational, entertaining, and though-provoking.

New Lesson Plan Format
You received a copy of the new lesson plan and rubric format yesterday in the faculty meeting reminder email. Ideally we will have the new format in all related syllabi and classes ready for spring 2018. Some key updates: standards used (Missouri Learning Standards or Missouri Early Learning Standards – no more Common Core or Show-Me Standards), changing terms related to “discussion questions” to “essential questions”, requiring each assessment (formative and summative) to be tied back to one or more lesson learning objectives, and clarifying some of the section language, particularly lesson procedures vs. learning activities / tasks.

Closing Thoughts
"Being down is not your destiny." Brenda Bradford spoke these words as the final presenter during the Fall Speaker Series. I was touched by her words and reminded of this very important truth. Brenda went on to say, "How many times have you fallen and stayed down? We feel our offenses are too bad to be rectified and then we limit the possibilities." She provided encouragement to all in the audience, "It's how you respond to those mistakes. Down does not have the final word. Run to your destiny."
Brenda did such a great job sharing her life story with us and joyfully speaking God's truth. Thank you for playing a role in our students' lives as they are trying to determine their destiny so they can run to it!
