Friday Memo: October 20, 2017
Education Faculty Meeting
On Tuesday, October 10 the faculty met and the Traveling Apple was awarded to Marsha Tierney. Marsha received the award for her outstanding work in the classroom and her dedication to the Franklin County RLC.
During the faculty meeting we reviewed CAEP data from the DESE 1st year teacher, principal, and counselor surveys, as well as the SWOTS for this year.
We also celebrated birthdays for: Clint Limoges, Laura Rauscher, Michelle Einig, and Patrick Cleveland. Patrick brought treats for everyone and since there were four out of seven people in the Counselor Education Department celebrating their October birthday, the cake said Probability: 1 in 20. 😊
ACSI Professional Development Forum
On Thursday, October 12 and Friday, October 13 several folks from MBU presented at the ACSI Professional Development Forum in O'Fallon, MO.

These are students in my Integrated Math Concepts class. We are looking at the 8 Mathematical Practices. The students were challenged to summarize a practice using non-linguistic representations. It went really well!
From Mark Engelhardt, Full Time Faculty
My students conducting a hands-on experiment demonstrating a decreasing mathematical function using a water column that is emptied over time and the resulting decrease in the column height recorded and then graphed on a Cartesian graphing plane.

Closing Thoughts
Do you know how much power one caring adult can have on a child? Click below to watch a powerful video from a former foster child. We can extend this concept beyond childhood - YOU have the power to be a caring adult in the life of your students. As I attended two fantastic events this week - a powerful chapel honroing outstanding alumni and banquet honoring outstanding athletes, I was reminded of the power of the faculty and staff here at MBU. Over and over the recipients gave thanks for the people at MBU who played a role in their development and experiences. You do make a difference!!!
