Friday Memo 1/20/17

Millennials in the Workplace
During our faculty meeting last week, I asked the group to listen to the YouTube video by Simon Sinek entitled "Millennials in the Workplace." Click here to view the video again.  We had an interesting discussion during the meeting about how do we, as instructors, make sure our students are receiving the best instruction.  I found a follow up video of Simon sharing some more thoughts. I encourage you to take 9 minutes to listen.  You won't regret it! Click here.

Employee of the Month!
Our very own Mandy Kehoe, Budget Coordinator for our department, has the honor of being the employee of the month.  She will be honored by the whole university at the next Birthday Celebration.  Mandy was nominated because she is always ready and willing to help - with a smile. She will enjoy a special parking place and the chance to become Employee of the Year.

Field Experience Orientation
On Tuesday, January 10 the Field Experience Orientation was held.  Dr. Hladky presented information and then the supervisors met with their students.

SIM School Overview
On Wednesday, January 11 David Collum hosted a meeting for the students enrolled in the Field Experience portion of the Teaching in a Diverse Society course. We had a large group of students who learned about the purpose of SimSchool, our research, and details about their assignments within the program. David does such a great job managing all of the students who utilize this software to provide them with experiences working in a simulated environment with a variety of different students.

Staff Meeting
Our staff met last week and with the expertise of Ricki Roth learned more about Outlook and how to save our signatures to sign a PDF document.  We have an amazing staff and enjoy learning from each other.

Library Resources
Circulation Librarian Mrs. Ling Thumin has offered her services to come to your classes and talk about all that the library has to offer our students.  You can contact her at thuminl@mobap.edu.

Closing Thoughts
I am reading the book, The Broken Way, by Ann Voskamp.  I hope her words inspire and encourage you as much as they have me.
When you are filled to the brim with the enoughness of Christ, the only way you can possibly have more is to pour yourself out. The only way to more life is by pouring more of yourself out.
I pray that as we begin a new semester, we remember that we are filled with the enoughness of Christ and pour that out to our students and to those in our community.
