Division Faculty Meeting
The highlight of the meeting for me was to watch as our division faculty members worked together analyzing our strategic plan from 2014-2015 to discuss our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats, and the status of our short-term, and long-term goals. Alicia Noddings and I will use this feedback as we create the strategic plan for 2015-2016.
simSchool/CAEP Update
David Collum and I will be attending the CAEP conference in Washington D.C. next Thursday and Friday. CAEP leadership has requested a meeting with me and David to review our research regarding the use of simSchool in teacher preparation programs. We are looking forward to our conversation with them to review our findings and to share our continued phases of research.
St. Charles Community College Child Development Articulation
Alicia Noddings and I have been working with Kathy Drews, Child Development Center Director & Child Care & Early Education Program Chair at SCC to begin the work involved in an articulation agreement between SCC & MBU for students interested in pursuing a BA, BS, or BPS in Child Development.
Advising Update
Angela McGowan, Ricki Roth, Mary Ann Boaus, Grace White, Rosanne McCoy and I met to discuss our advising procedures to ensure we are correctly advising students who are having difficulty meeting GPA requirements. We are working on a procedure that identifies and flags students who should not be enrolled in 400 level education classes due to GPA issues. More information will be forthcoming.
Undergraduate Programs Update
The first official deadline for Task 1 of the MoPTA was last night. I am happy to announce that all of our MBU student teachers have successfully submitted their task by the deadline. Thanks to professors and supervisors for guiding these students as they are under a lot of stress. Your steadfast support and encouragement are extremely important for our students to be successful. As I think back over the last few years as we have participated in the pilots for the MoPTA, I am grateful that you all have been willing to participate. I feel that our participation in the pilot programs has allowed us to be prepared for this semester when the scores count for certification.
Graduate Programs
Education Specialist
I have been having many conversations with Ed.S.C&I faculty and Tammy Cox, advisor, to discuss the program requirements and scope and sequence. We will be submitting some suggested changes to the Graduate Affairs Committee for approval. Grad Affairs recently approved the elimination of the EDUC 601 CI and EDUC 601 S Orientation course for both the C&I and Superintendent Track.
Education Doctorate
We will be meeting tomorrow with the next cohort of students. Shelton Smith, Heather Goodin, Susan Hladky, Phyllis Frederickson, and Judith Scott will welcome this next group of doctoral students. Shelton has invited 4 recent graduates, David Collum, Sheri Brandt, Walter Collie, and Julie Hume to come share their experiences with the new students. I am looking forward to introducing our program to our new students tomorrow and seeing many of the doctoral faculty at the meeting. This introductory meeting is a valuable meeting for the students as they begin their doctoral journey.
Counseling
The Counseling faculty will be conducting a study session for students. Counseling students have been informed of this event, but I wanted to make sure all of the faculty are aware of this upcoming event. Thanks to the faculty for offering this opportunity for our students.
Counseling - Study Session - Saturday, October 3rd 9am - noon.
MBU Counseling Licensure and Dual Track students are required to take the Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Exam before they can graduate. A passing score of 85 is required! The CPCE is a comprehensive examination that covers the same 8 content areas as the National Counselor Exam, so this study session will help students with both exams. This study session will help students with test-taking strategies and cover the following 8 content areas in the CPCE & NCE exams:
- Human Growth and Development
- Social & Cultural Foundations
- Helping Relationships
- Group Work
- Career & Lifestyle Development
- Assessment
- Research & Program Evaluation
- Professional Orientation & Ethics
President Lacey presented a moving speech about character at chapel yesterday. He is a captivating speaker and the students appeared to be very engaged in his message. After his motivational words, there was an induction ceremony for the new faculty members. Once again, we warmly welcome Dr. Susan Hladky and Dr. Jeremy Ruckstaetter to our division. We are so grateful that you have joined our team!
Announcements
- Parking Stickers - All full-time and adjunct faculty who attend any events at MBU's main campus are expected to obtain and place a parking sticker on the back left corner of the back window of your car. Parking tickets will be given to faculty members who do not have a parking sticker.
- FASR - Full-time faculty members must submit their Faculty Activity Summary Report to Janet Mayfield by November 9.

On this 14th anniversary of the September 11th attack on our nation, I challenge you to reflect on the loss of so many lives and pray for their family and friends who continue to deal with the loss of their loved ones. Life itself is something for which we should be grateful and rejoice.
