Friday Memo 1/9/15

Welcome Back!

Here is a snapshot of what we have been working on the last few days:

  • Spring Faculty Conference - We learned valuable information regarding our Honors Program, upcoming HLC visit, Canvas Learning Management System, Integration of Faith and Learning, and lessons learned from the Teaching and Technology Conference. Here is a shout out to Tim Delicath, David Collum, and Sheri Brandes - great job sharing what you learned at that conference!
  • Missouri Content Assessment (new test that replaced Praxis) - Kathleen Wendt and I have been meeting to determine the best way to track the assessment results as they are being reported to our university differently than the Praxis. We want to be intentional about how we track this information so we can use the data for analysis purposes.
  • Counselor Position Review - We continue to review resumes from applicants for our counseling position(s) available. Possible candidates are being identified and interviewed.
  • Mobile Learning Initiative - The group met this week to work on our presentation for the METC conference in February. The title of our presentation is Collaboration and Cooperation - Bridging the gap between K-12 and teacher preparation mobile learning initiatives.
  • Faculty Reviews - I have been conducting full-time faculty reviews. I appreciate the time I get to spend with each full-time faculty member during these reviews.
  • simSchool - David Collum and I have been meeting frequently to review data regarding our pilot use of simSchool in the undergraduate Diversity course. A brief update will be provided at the faculty meeting on Tuesday.
  • Missouri Council of Education Deans - I am at a meeting today in Jefferson City with other deans. We are discussing a variety of statewide issues - teacher education federal regulations, internal annual performance report inter-institutional agreements, assessment cut scores - student and program impacts, DESE forms, and upcoming MACTE meeting.
  • MoPTA - I just learned today that student teachers will complete the MoPTA, but we will only collect the data internally. Student teachers this spring will NOT register through the ETS website for the MoPTA. There will be a pilot submission for Task 4. More information will be coming soon regarding the submission.
Upcoming Meetings:
Saturday, January 10 - Jefferson County/Arnold RLC Adjunct meeting - 9:00am
Monday, January 12 - Faculty Meeting 3:30pm - Recital Hall
Tuesday, January 13 - DESE Webinar 9:00am
Tuesday, January 13 - Division Faculty Meeting - 10:15am - FLD Conference Room

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7

Go and be blessed this weekend!
Melanie
