New Faces

First School of Education Faculty/Staff Meeting of 19/20
We shared summer adventure pictures and discussed topics such as Zoom and the upcoming schedule.




Teacher Education Council Meeting
On Wednesday, April 17 our second Teacher Education Council meeting was held. This group of MBU faculty and students and several of our partner education folks met to discuss our field experience students and program, get updated on assessments and the Teacher Education Division, and hear from our partners on what is going well and what needs improvement.



Jan Speck Receives Ed Ailor Award
On Saturday, April 27 in the Capitol Building in Jefferson City, Jan Speck received the Ed Ailor Award from the Missouri School Counselor Association. Tammy Cox was present to celebrate with Jan.

Ed Ailor was the Guidance Supervisor for the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education from 1965-1983. He worked in the education field in different capacities for over 45 years. He was an advocate for counseling programs throughout the state and nation. Ed was someone who had compassion, respect for others, and never knew a stranger. He died in March, 1999, but will be remembered forever by his peers, friends, and Missouri Counselors. The Missouri School Counselor Association would like to continue honoring this outstanding individual by presenting an ED AILOR MEMORIAL AWARD to a retired or emeritus MSCA counselor. This recipient would emulate the energy, support, and love which Ed Ailor exemplified throughout his life. The primary qualifier for selection of this award would be leadership of the MSCA organization. 

Jan certainly emulates all of the qualities that are needed to receive this award. Congratulations Jan!

Counselor Retreat
On Monday, April 29 and Tuesday, April 30 the Counselor Education folks met to work on their CACREP Self-Study. The study will be submitted on May 3. Thanks for all of your hard work!

Data Meeting
On Thursday, May 2 from 9:00 am to noon there was a Data meeting held to discuss the APR Report, assessments, and data from the state. Alicia Noddings, Associate Dean of the School of Education for Accreditation, Assessment, and Data led the meeting.

ASCA Conference
Jan Speck and Christine Ward went to the American School Counselor Association conference in Boston.

Our verses for this year are Philippians 2:1-2 Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.

 Let's strive to be more like Jesus, having His same love, being one in spirit and of one mind - the mind of Christ.

Veteran's Day We owe a debt of gratitude to all former and current military men and women for their service to our country. Please take a few minutes and read the Missing Man Table note that is placed on a table in the dining hall. This note brought some of us to tears as we reflected on those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. If you are on campus, I encourage you to stop in the dining hall to see the display. Tribute to Shelton Smith

Today's blog is dedicated to my friend, Shelton Smith. If you would like, feel free to add thoughts and memories of Shelton in the comment section below.  In Memory of Dr. Shelton Smith Dr. Shelton Smith lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, December 13, 2018. February 24, 1945 - December 13, 2018  Glenda & Shelton Shelton's family Shelton with his daughters, Heather & Erika, on Father's Day You couldn't talk to Shelton for very long without him talking about his family. You would hear about his lovely wife Glenda; his two daughters, Erika and Heather and their husbands; and all of his grandchildren. He was very proud of all of them and was always ready to show you pictures and tell you stories. Shelton earned his Bachelor's in Education in 1967, Master's in Education in 1972, and his Ed.S. in District Administration in 1974 from Southeast Missouri State. Friday Memo 9/30/16

Ron Brandly This week we celebrated the life of Ron Brandly and mourn his death from this earth, but we rest assured that he is teaching and talking and loving people in heaven. Ron was one of the most joyful and kind men I have ever met. He truly loved working at Missouri Baptist University and working with doctoral students. At his funeral there were several references made about Missouri Baptist University and his love of working with the people at MBU. At the luncheon that followed the funeral, Shelton Smith had the opportunity to share of Ron's service to teaching and serving on dissertation committees. A couple of our doctoral graduates, Elaine Henderson and Todd Culbertson, were there to attest to his caring attitude. We are grateful for his service and will miss him dearly!
