Friday Memo: April 20, 2018

YESS Program
A YESS (Yearlong Experience for Spartan Seniors) Program meeting was held Monday evening for the students and principals that will be part of the program in the fall. Our YESS program gives our seniors a year-long student teaching experience in one of our partner schools. We have a record number of students participating. Doug Holler, principal at Lakeview Elementary in Wentzville School District, attended to meet his students. Alicia Noddings, Tammy Cox, Colleen Hulcer, Jim Schulz, Kathleen Wendt, Ellen John, and I also attended. Susan went over expectations and the students worked on their schedule.

Senior Walk
The Senior Walk is a great tradition at MBU and it was held on Thursday. Everyone on campus lines up to watch the seniors walk from the SRC to the Chapel in their regalia. It's an exciting event! Congratulations to all!

Closing Thoughts
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love

These powerful words were shared last night at my son's NHS induction. I was so moved by these words that I will be integrating them in my speech that I give at our upcoming Education Division Commissioning Service. The picture below was taken at last year's Commissioning Service. This is a very special event and I strongly encourage all of you to join us - full-time faculty and staff are expected to attend. Adjunct faculty, if your schedule allows, please join us. Please refer to an email invitation sent to you on March 28th with all of the details of the evening and how to rsvp.
You will be blessed as we honor our amazing students who have received the call of teaching from God.
