Education Division Christmas Party
We had a special visitor join us at our annual division Christmas party. Santa Claus came delivering good cheer and candy canes to all! He even had an iPad app that scanned our fingerprint to determine if we had been naughty, nice or even an angel. See more pictures from our party below.

Scheduling
Our office has been working diligently to finalize the spring 2016 schedule. Thanks to those of you who have offered to teach some classes that need instructors. Kathleen has created a spreadsheet with enrollment numbers over the last two years to help us make decisions about offering some of our courses on rotations rather than offering them every term in an effort to be more efficient. Please understand that some courses that you are used to teaching frequently may not be offered as often.

CACREP
We met this week to discuss action items that need to take place as we look toward applying for CACREP accreditation. We are looking at enrollment numbers to determine if we have the adequate faculty to meet the standards. Jeremy Ruckstaetter and Laura Rauscher are looking at our curriculum to determine what changes need to be made to satisfy the CACREP standards.

Faculty Evaluations
I have begun meeting individually with faculty members for their annual evaluations. It is such a pleasure for me to sit down one-on-one and chat with faculty discussing their work in our division. I am also soliciting the help of program directors as we begin to formally document our program improvement process. Our goal is to have campus labs set up for us to use to store the necessary documentation.

Curriculum Task Force
The Curriculum Task Force met yesterday to discuss the future of this group. Although we have already completed all of the necessary curricular changes to meet DESE's new certification requirements.  We feel it is important that this group become a standing University committee to review the division's curriculum on a consistent basis.

Potential PK-12 Partnership
Susan Hladky and I visited administrators from a local school district yesterday afternoon. We discussed the possibility of our Field II elementary students observing in a school in their district that is effectively implementing multi-tiered system of support.  We outlined our vision of the program and discussed the benefits, not only to our MBU students, but also to the district's teachers and students. We are waiting for final approval. We will keep you posted.

Upcoming Student Teacher Orientation
I am looking forward to our orientation next Tuesday. I am designing the agenda and inviting speakers who will not only share the detailed information needed prior to student teaching, but will also provide inspiration and encouragement to the students. And speaking of upcoming student teaching...I was pleasantly surprised at my sons' band concert Tuesday evening when I noticed one of our soon-to-be student teachers, Johnnie Brown, conducting the Christian High School Percussion Ensemble as they played a rendition of Carol of the Bells that he arranged. We have some amazing students that are going to be great teachers!!!

The following was taken from Max Lucado's book, Grace for the Moment.  He eloquently describes when God became a man.

It all happened in a most remarkable moment...a moment like no other...
God became a man. Divinity arrived. Heaven opened herself and placed her most precious one in a human womb.
The omnipotent, in one instant, became flesh and blood. The one who was larger than the universe became a microscopic embryo. And he who sustains the world with a word chose to be dependent upon the nourishment of a young girl. God had come near.

As you reflect on the birth of Jesus, be reminded that in one instant God came near. He chose to come near to us because He loves us so much!

May God Bless you and your family richly this Christmas season!
Melanie
